Swire Shipping raises rates for multiple services
Swire Shipping has announced General Rate Increases (GRIs) for cargo shipments destined for Townsville and Darwin, Australia, and Dili, Timor-Leste, effective June 25, 2026. These adjustments, which will apply to cargo with a bill of lading date on or after that date, are being implemented due to sustained increases in operating expenses and vessel charter rates.
For shipments to Townsville, Australia, a surcharge of USD 300 per 20-foot container and USD 600 per 40-foot container will be introduced. Cargo bound for Darwin, Australia, will see a GRI of USD 200 per 20-foot container and USD 400 per 40-foot container. Shipments to Dili, Timor-Leste, will be subject to an increase of USD 150 per 20-foot container and USD 300 per 40-foot container. These revised rates apply to cargo originating from anywhere in the world destined for these specific locations.
Swire Shipping stated that these rate adjustments are necessary to mitigate the impact of rising operating costs and charter expenses, thereby ensuring the continued provision of its service network and port coverage. The carrier also noted that shipments on trade lanes regulated by the Federal Maritime Commission will adhere to all applicable regulatory notice requirements.
