Star Princess makes West Coast debut at Port of Los Angeles
Princess Cruises celebrated a significant milestone with the debut of its newest ship, Star Princess, on the U.S. West Coast. The vessel made its inaugural call at the Port of Los Angeles, underscoring the enduring partnership between Princess Cruises and the port, a collaboration that has flourished for over six decades.
This deployment significantly expands cruise options from Los Angeles. Star Princess is scheduled to offer a diverse array of itineraries through 2027, including voyages to the Pacific Coast, the Mexican Riviera, and the Panama Canal. Notable departures include:
* A 16-day Panama Canal voyage in October 2026 and October 2027.
* A 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise in April 2027.
* A 4-day Pacific Coastal itinerary in April 2027.
The arrival of Star Princess reinforces the Port of Los Angeles’s position as a premier cruise hub on the U.S. West Coast.
A Next-Generation Cruise Ship
The impressive 177,800-ton Star Princess is designed to accommodate up to 4,300 passengers. It features 2,157 staterooms, ranging from suites and mini-suites to over 1,000 cabins with balconies. Onboard amenities for passengers include:
* Thirty distinct dining and bar venues.
* Five entertainment spaces, highlighted by a 990-seat arena.
* Multiple swimming pools, a spa, and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
* New sports facilities, including courts for pickleball and basketball.
The introduction of Star Princess exemplifies Princess Cruises’ commitment to elevating the onboard guest experience while simultaneously broadening itinerary choices.
Significant Port and Tourism Impact
The Port of Los Angeles continues to experience substantial benefits from robust cruise activity. In 2025 alone, the port is expected to host 241 cruise calls, accommodating 1.6 million passengers and contributing an estimated $300 million to the local economy. Each cruise call generates approximately $1.3 million in local spending, directly supporting businesses in the vicinity of the port.
With Star Princess joining the existing Princess Cruises fleet operating from Los Angeles—which includes Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess, and Crown Princess—the port is well-positioned to maintain strong cruise traffic in the coming years.
