Southern Tyrrhenian Port Authority launches institutional dialogue on port development

The Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority recently held a significant institutional meeting at Vibo Valentia Marina to outline strategic development plans for the port’s infrastructure and its integration with the surrounding urban environment. This gathering initiated a series of planned port visits by the Port Authority Management Committee, aimed at fostering direct engagement with local institutions to discuss future port development and review current and upcoming investments.

The delegation, headed by Port System Authority President Paolo Piacenza, included Director of Peripheral Areas Giuseppe Cardona, Vibo Valentia Marina office staff, Port Commander Frigate Captain Guido Avallone, and members of the Management Committee.

Following an on-site inspection of the port facilities, the delegation met with Vibo Valentia Mayor Enzo Romeo. Discussions focused on the Strategic Planning Document, the key instrument for medium to long-term port development under Italian law. President Piacenza presented the Mayor and Port Authority Captain with a comprehensive project portfolio, including implementation timelines for the Port of Vibo Marina.

Key initiatives include the redevelopment of the Cortese Dock and the demolition of the former Civam building, slated for commencement by October 2026. Works on the port entrances and offshore infrastructure are also part of the development program.

The total investment for the period 2026-2028 is projected at approximately €90 million, with an estimated €12.3 million allocated for investments within 2026.

This meeting underscored the Port Authority’s dedication to enhancing institutional dialogue with local communities and cultivating a shared vision for Vibo Valentia Marina’s contribution to the region’s economic, logistical, tourism, and infrastructural growth.
