Rhenus Group and COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers have formalized a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Rhenus Cuxport in Cuxhaven, Germany. This collaboration aims to enhance project cargo, heavy-lift, and specialized transport services by integrating Rhenus’ extensive port and logistics capabilities with COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ fleet of over 200 specialized vessels.

The partnership will focus on developing comprehensive logistics solutions encompassing breakbulk cargo, vehicles, heavy-lift shipments, semi-submersible cargo, and end-to-end distribution. Rhenus will leverage its terminal infrastructure, warehousing facilities, rail connections, barge services, and transport fleet located in Cuxhaven. In turn, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers intends to deploy its multipurpose vessel fleet at the German terminal.

A key objective of this collaboration is to improve digital integration between port and shipping operations, thereby boosting supply chain efficiency and visibility.

Zhang Wei, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, highlighted Europe’s significance as a strategic market. He stated that the partnership will foster the development of more efficient and resilient logistics corridors and broaden the company’s service network across Northwestern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea region.

This agreement is also anticipated to generate new opportunities for Rhenus Project Logistics by facilitating increasingly complex cargo movements throughout Europe.
