Pilbara Ports records increased volumes in April 2026
Pilbara Ports Authority reported a total monthly throughput of 65.9 million tonnes in April 2026, marking a 2% increase compared to April 2025. Performance varied across its key port facilities during this period.
The Port of Port Hedland processed 47 million tonnes for the month, with iron ore exports accounting for 46.3 million tonnes, a 1% decrease year-on-year. Imports through Port Hedland rose slightly by 1% to 217,000 tonnes compared to the previous year.
In contrast, the Port of Dampier saw a total throughput of 15.2 million tonnes, a 3% increase from April 2025. Imports at Dampier experienced significant growth, increasing by 41% year-on-year to reach 119,000 tonnes.
Pilbara Ports Authority attributed these throughput fluctuations across its network to a combination of market conditions, weather events, scheduled port maintenance, and evolving customer demands.
