Maersk opens automated distribution centre in Singapore
Maersk has inaugurated World Gateway II, a new, fully automated global and regional distribution centre in Singapore. This significant expansion of its logistics and e-commerce capabilities in the Asia Pacific region features a 1.1 million square foot facility designed to meet the increasing demand from companies utilizing Singapore as a central distribution hub.
Supported by the Singapore government, the state-of-the-art centre will cater to both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) operations. It is equipped to handle a diverse range of products across various sectors, including retail, fast-moving consumer goods, lifestyle, wellness, and technology.
The strategic location of World Gateway II, in close proximity to critical transport infrastructure like Tuas Port and Changi Airport, ensures highly efficient international cargo distribution. This new facility is situated adjacent to Maersk’s existing World Gateway distribution centre, which encompasses 1.0 million square feet.

The warehouse incorporates advanced automation technologies to enhance efficiency and scalability. These include a Multi-Shuttle System, an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and both Autonomous Case-handling Robots and Autonomous Mobile Robots. Maersk anticipates these systems will lead to accelerated order fulfilment, reduced lead times, and improved operational accuracy through minimized manual handling.
The opening of World Gateway II marks a further advancement in Maersk’s strategy to bolster its integrated logistics offerings and optimize supply chain performance for its clients throughout the Asia Pacific.
