Indian Register of Shipping expands into Brazil market

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has announced a significant expansion of its international operations with the establishment of a new office in Santos, Brazil. This strategic move is designed to enhance support for the burgeoning maritime sector across South America.

The new IRS representation in Santos will provide crucial services to shipowners, ship managers, shipyards, offshore operators, and other key maritime stakeholders throughout Brazil and the broader South American region. To bolster these operations, Felipe A. De Sa has been appointed as a surveyor. His role will be instrumental in delivering classification services, statutory certification, technical inspections, and marine assurance services directly within the region.

This expansion signifies a key milestone in IRS’s international growth strategy. The company recognizes South America as a vital market, driven by robust activity in the shipping, port, offshore energy, and shipbuilding industries.

“Strengthening our presence in Brazil reinforces IRS’s commitment to supporting the maritime industry in South America through local presence, technical expertise, and responsive service delivery,” stated Saikat Roychowdhury, Chief Operating Officer at IRS. He further emphasized that a dedicated surveyor based in Santos will significantly improve service capabilities for both current and prospective clients.

IRS anticipates that this expansion will foster stronger relationships with regional stakeholders. The company is also poised to address the increasing demand for a comprehensive suite of services, including classification, statutory certification, technical due diligence, marine technical services, digital solutions, sustainability services, and decarbonization initiatives.

This strategic expansion further solidifies IRS’s growing global presence and commitment to serving international maritime markets.
