Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk unveil 2026 changes to Gemini network

Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk, partners in the Gemini network, are set to implement significant service adjustments in April 2026. These enhancements follow a successful first year of operations, during which the network reportedly achieved schedule reliability of at least 90 percent. The revised structure aims to optimize port coverage and improve transit times, particularly on key East-West trade lanes.

Far East to North Europe Revisions:

* NE2: This service will now include a direct call at Antwerp, enhancing connectivity to Benelux regions and facilitating inland European cargo movements.
* NE3: The NE3 service will feature a new Baltic rotation, calling at Aarhus and Gothenburg. Southampton will serve as the final European departure port for Asia-bound shipments. In Asia, Ningbo will be replaced by Yantian to strengthen coverage in Southern China.
* NE4: This service will revert to its original rotation, excluding the Baltic loop now managed by NE3. This adjustment is anticipated to bolster direct services between Ningbo and German ports.

Mediterranean Network Adjustments:

* SE1: The SE1 service will incorporate calls at Algeciras in both westbound and eastbound directions, thereby improving connections to Spain and the Adriatic region.
* SE3: The SE3 service will be upgraded to operate with 20,000 TEU vessels and will feature a simplified rotation designed to increase reliability. Istanbul and Izmit will be served through dedicated shuttle services. The revised loop will include calls at Port Said East and the new hub terminal in Damietta.

Adjustments previously announced for the Transpacific and Transatlantic routes will remain in effect. Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk also noted that services currently rerouting around the Red Sea may resume Suez Canal transit at a later date, contingent upon prevailing operational conditions. Further details regarding these changes will be communicated to customers in due course.
