Grimaldi presents ammonia-ready car carrier Grande Istanbul
Grimaldi Group has officially unveiled its newest Pure Car & Truck Carrier (PCTC), the Grande Istanbul, during a ceremony held at Autoport in Kocaeli, Türkiye. This state-of-the-art vessel, named in honor of Türkiye’s largest metropolis, is part of a significant order of 17 next-generation, ammonia-ready PCTCs. These vessels are set to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of Grimaldi Group’s worldwide automotive logistics operations.
The Grande Istanbul boasts a substantial capacity of up to 9,241 Car Equivalent Units (CEUs) and is engineered to reduce CO₂ emissions per unit of cargo by as much as 50% when compared to previous generations of car carriers.
Currently, the Grande Istanbul is deployed on Grimaldi’s EuroMed service, connecting Northern Europe with the Mediterranean. This route encompasses key Turkish ports, including Autoport, Borusan, Derince, Gemlik, Haydarpaşa, and İzmir, facilitating the transport of automobiles, trucks, rolling cargo, and containers.
The presentation also underscored Grimaldi’s enduring commitment to Türkiye, where the company has been an active participant in maritime trade for nearly five decades. Grimaldi Group presently operates approximately 20 modern ro-ro vessels and PCTCs serving Turkish ports, representing a total investment of around €1.2 billion.
