DHL Express launches Heavy Weight Express Service
DHL Express has enhanced its global express offerings with the introduction of Heavy Weight Express (HWX), a new service specifically designed for substantial international shipments. This innovative solution accommodates individual pieces weighing up to 1,000 kilograms and total shipments up to 3,000 kilograms.
According to DHL, HWX integrates the speed of express delivery with comprehensive shipment oversight, proactive monitoring, and transparent pricing across more than 220 countries and territories. The service has been developed to meet the critical demands of industries where timely delivery and shipment integrity are paramount. Key sectors benefiting from HWX include technology, automotive, engineering, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, oil and gas, and energy.
John Pearson commented that this new service strengthens DHL’s position within global supply chains, particularly as businesses contend with increasing disruptions, compressed production schedules, and heightened financial risks associated with delivery delays.
The HWX service features dedicated Heavy Weight Priority Desks. These specialized teams offer continuous tracking, proactive exception management, and direct customer communication throughout the entire shipping process. DHL emphasizes that each shipment is assigned dedicated case ownership, thereby improving visibility and operational dependability.
DHL has also identified six primary applications for this new solution:
* Preventing production downtime.
* Facilitating product launches with strict deadlines.
* Minimizing the need for extensive inventory buffers.
* Managing large-volume procurement shipments.
* Transporting sensitive or regulated goods.
* Supporting intricate multi-site supply chains.
Furthermore, DHL highlights that HWX reduces customer reliance on fluctuating airline capacity and mitigates unexpected surcharges. This is achieved through the strategic utilization of DHL’s owned aircraft fleet, extensive hub network, in-house customs operations, and comprehensive last-mile delivery infrastructure.
