Contargo launches first electric trucks in France

Contargo North France has introduced its inaugural electric trucks in France, coinciding with the official opening of a new charging station at its container terminal in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut. Ports de l’Escaut inaugurated this facility on June 8, with attendance from Contargo, government officials, and industry representatives.

The state-of-the-art charging station, strategically located at the entrance of the Bruay-sur-l’Escaut terminal, is equipped with two charging points specifically designed for electric heavy-duty vehicles. During the inauguration event, Contargo also unveiled two fully electric Mercedes eActros trucks, which will be deployed for container deliveries within the region.

This initiative significantly contributes to ongoing efforts to reduce emissions generated by freight transport and accelerate the adoption of sustainable logistics practices. The investment in this charging infrastructure was made by the Syndicat Mixte Docks Seine Nord Europe / Escaut, the entity responsible for managing public port infrastructure in the Valenciennes area. This authority facilitates the transport of approximately 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually via inland waterways.

By championing inland shipping and multimodal transportation solutions, the Syndicat Mixte aims to reduce transport-related emissions while simultaneously enhancing the industrial competitiveness of the Hauts-de-France region. The introduction of the charging station and electric trucks represents a significant advancement in the region’s commitment to fostering sustainable freight transport.
