Bureau Veritas (BV) and Shenzhen Port Group have formalized a strategic cooperation agreement to expedite the establishment of a Green Shipping Corridor (GSC) within China. This collaboration is designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions from maritime transport and simultaneously enhance Shenzhen’s standing as a leading international hub for green shipping.

Under this agreement, both organizations will collaborate on GSC projects and other sustainability initiatives. A key objective is to develop and implement solutions that can be effectively replicated at other ports globally.

Bureau Veritas will offer comprehensive technical support to Shenzhen Port Group and other relevant industry stakeholders. This support will encompass guidance on evolving international maritime regulations and the implementation of practical measures to ensure alignment with global sustainability standards.

Leveraging its extensive expertise across the green fuel value chain, BV will contribute to this initiative. Its services include testing, inspection, and certification for renewable energy production, alternative marine fuels, and bunkering infrastructure. The company highlighted its significant experience gained from participation in numerous green fuel projects within China.

Alex Gregg-Smith, President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, emphasized that the shipping industry’s decarbonization journey necessitates close collaboration across the entire maritime sector. He stated that partnerships involving ports, classification societies, and industry stakeholders are crucial for accelerating the adoption of low-carbon technologies and alternative fuels.

This agreement further solidifies Bureau Veritas’ commitment to supporting maritime decarbonization efforts and advancing the development of greener port infrastructure.
