WAN HAI 503 continues cargo discharge following onboard incident
WAN HAI 503 Cargo Operations Progressing Under Specialist Supervision
As of December 30, 2025, cargo operations aboard the vessel WAN HAI 503 are proceeding under the close supervision of specialist teams, according to an official update.
The discharge of distressed cargo from the vessel’s holds has been successfully completed. Current cleanup efforts are concentrated on removing cargo residue and waste from cargo holds 3 and 4. Due to a significant volume of slurry, hold 4 is anticipated to require more extensive work.
Concurrently, water drainage operations are ongoing. Crews are continuing to remove firefighting water from the cargo holds, with approximately 11,675 tonnes discharged to date.
As of December 28, an estimated 1,696 containers had been discharged, and no containers remain onboard. Authorities have noted that container counts are approximate, as the compromised condition of the cargo has presented challenges in individual identification during discharge.
