UAE Energy Ministry and Agility partner on data center efficiency
UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Agility Forge Partnership to Enhance Data Center and District Cooling Efficiency
The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agility, a global logistics leader, to drive significant improvements in energy efficiency across the nation’s data centers and district cooling systems. This strategic collaboration is designed to bolster economic performance and solidify the UAE’s competitive standing on both regional and global stages within the digital infrastructure sector.
The MoU was formally signed by Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry, and Tarek Sultan, Chairman of Agility.
As part of this agreement, Agility will implement advanced AI-based control technology developed by Phaidra, a recognized global provider of AI agents focused on power and cooling optimization. This cutting-edge technology is engineered to manage the intricate energy, cooling, and workload systems essential for modern data centers.
The partnership will commence with a focused study and a pilot project, which will evaluate the efficacy of Phaidra’s reinforcement learning models within real-world industrial infrastructure environments. Phaidra’s platform has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to reduce cooling capital expenditures and decrease energy consumption by as much as 40%. Furthermore, it enhances system safety, resilience, and operational reliability, particularly crucial in high-temperature climates.
Moving forward, the collaboration will explore opportunities to scale AI-driven optimization solutions throughout the sector, with the overarching objective of positioning the UAE as a premier destination for investment in AI and digital infrastructure. This initiative aligns directly with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Ministry’s dedicated Energy Efficiency Strategy.
Eng. Sharif Al Olama emphasized that the partnership will contribute to reducing energy consumption and elevating infrastructure reliability, underscoring its role in advancing the UAE’s aspiration to lead in the development of next-generation AI data centers.
Tarek Sultan remarked that the agreement highlights the critical importance of public-private collaboration in an era where AI is fundamentally reshaping global infrastructure. He further noted that AI control systems offer substantial improvements in efficiency, resilience, and long-term economic performance for energy-intensive facilities.
