HMM partners with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and Avikus on AI navigation

HMM has entered into a strategic partnership with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and Avikus to spearhead the advancement of AI-based autonomous navigation technologies. This collaboration involves HMM signing contracts with Avikus to implement autonomous navigation solutions across its fleet, alongside a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research and technical cooperation among all three entities.

The initial phase will see HMM deploying this cutting-edge technology on 40 vessels. This rollout will leverage real-world operational data to rigorously refine system performance and enhance overall fleet competitiveness. Following an assessment of these initial results, HMM intends to expand the application of these autonomous navigation solutions to its entire fleet.

Under the terms of the MOU, the partners will engage in collaborative efforts to further develop AI-driven navigation technologies. HMM will lead the deployment process and contribute vital operational data. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering will provide the necessary vessel platforms and technical expertise, while Avikus will be responsible for delivering and continuously enhancing the autonomous navigation solutions.

This initiative underscores HMM’s commitment to digitalization and smart shipping, as the company strategically invests in enhancing operational efficiency and safety across its global network.
