Maersk increases emergency contingency surcharge to West Coast Latin America

Maersk has announced an increase in its Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) for shipments originating from the Indian Subcontinent and destined for the West Coast of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Central America.

This revised surcharge will be applicable to cargo from the following regions:
* North West India and Pakistan
* South and East India
* Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives

The effective dates for the new surcharge are as follows:
* July 25, 2026: For cargo bound for the West Coast of South America, the Caribbean, and Central America (excluding Puerto Rico and Colombia).
* August 4, 2026: For shipments to Puerto Rico and Colombia.

The surcharge amounts range from US$2,650 to US$4,550 per container, varying based on the origin point and container type. This adjustment applies to dry, reefer, out-of-gauge (OOG), shipper-owned (SOC), and non-operating reefer (NOR) containers.

Maersk has stated that these surcharge adjustments are contingent upon obtaining any necessary regulatory approvals and adhering to applicable notice periods.
