Rhenus Logistics, in collaboration with duisport, HGK Shipping, and Viking Cruises, has officially launched the Allianz Wasserstraße (Inland Waterway Alliance) in Germany. This initiative, formally inaugurated in Berlin, seeks to bolster the significance of inland waterways as a robust and environmentally responsible component of European supply chains.

The alliance’s primary objective is to advocate for enhanced political backing from both Berlin and Brussels. Key priorities include securing increased investment, fostering consistent policy-making, and establishing a regulatory environment conducive to the modernization of inland waterway infrastructure.

Michael de Reese, CEO of Rhenus Port Logistics, emphasized the strategic importance of inland waterways to Europe’s logistics network, stating they warrant greater recognition. The Allianz Wasserstraße will serve as a unified voice for the inland waterway sector, championing the development of efficient, sustainable, and future-proof transport infrastructure throughout Europe.
