Daphne Technology’s PureMetrics receives Lloyd’s Register validation

Daphne Technology’s PureMetrics™ continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) has achieved a significant milestone with the issuance of a Factual Statement from Lloyd’s Register (LR). This independent assessment confirms the system’s suitability for the continuous monitoring of specified greenhouse gas emissions originating from marine diesel engines.

Lloyd’s Register conducted a thorough review encompassing the system’s design, its methodology for calculating emissions, and the results of onboard demonstration tests. Crucially, this Factual Statement pertains to the PureMetrics design itself, rather than a vessel-specific approval. This allows shipowners to leverage the statement as a foundational document for developing their own vessel-specific monitoring plans and securing certification.

The PureMetrics system is engineered to monitor a comprehensive range of emissions, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NO and NO₂), and sulphur dioxide (SO₂). It is compatible with both marine diesel and dual-fuel engines, making it a versatile solution for vessels, including those powered by LNG.

Furthermore, Lloyd’s Register has validated Daphne Technology’s emissions calculation methodology, which is based on UN TOOL08.

Max Wu, Lead Specialist on Engine and Emissions Certification Service at Lloyd’s Register, commented, “Although IMO and EU frameworks recognized CEMS as a method for measuring greenhouse gas emissions, LR and Daphne Technology initiated this appraisal before specific statutory guidelines were available. The new IMO guidelines now provide a clear path for CEMS approval.”

Ivan Raleff, Managing Director of Daphne Technology, added, “Receiving the Lloyd’s Register Factual Statement is another important step for PureMetrics. It confirms the system meets regulatory requirements across a broader range of greenhouse gases.”

This validation follows a Statement of Compliance issued by DNV in April 2026. The combined endorsements from Lloyd’s Register and DNV significantly strengthen the technical foundation for direct emissions monitoring, particularly as methane reporting requirements are set to expand under the EU MRV and EU ETS.
