Maersk restarts Red Sea transits amid vessel shortage
Maersk Line has resumed passage through the Red Sea, ending a three-month hiatus, as a persistent shortage of available tonnage drives charter rates to soaring levels. Container shipping consultancy Linerlytica reported today that the Santa Catarina Maersk (7,154 TEU) and Clementine Maersk (8,648 TEU) are the first vessels from the Danish operator to traverse the Bab el-Mandeb Strait since March 1st.
