Misurata Free Zone signs cooperation agreement with Port of Antwerp-Bruges

The Misurata Free Zone (MFZ) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to enhance collaboration in port development and logistics services.

The agreement was formally signed by MFZ Chairman Muhsin M. Sigutri and representatives from the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The ceremony was attended by Belgium’s Ambassador to Libya, François Dumont, along with a delegation comprising representatives from Belgian ports and the dredging company Jan De Nul.

This strategic partnership will focus on several key areas, including technical and consulting support, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and digital transformation initiatives. Furthermore, the collaboration will foster cooperation in the development and implementation of sustainable and clean energy solutions.

Both entities will work collaboratively on crucial port development aspects, such as master planning, infrastructure projects, and the establishment of specialized terminals, including plans for a future bulk cargo terminal.

According to MFZ, the primary objective of this cooperation is to diversify the port’s activities and bolster the overall competitiveness of the Misurata Free Zone Port. This initiative is integral to broader efforts aimed at reinforcing Misurata’s position as a significant regional logistics hub.

MFZ anticipates that this partnership will be instrumental in supporting the future growth of Libya’s maritime transport and logistics sectors by capitalizing on the extensive expertise of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
