Indian Register of Shipping expands into Brazil market

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has established a new presence in Santos, Brazil, marking a significant expansion of its international operations and a strategic move to bolster support for South America’s dynamic maritime sector. This new office will serve a broad range of maritime stakeholders, including shipowners, ship managers, shipyards, and offshore operators, throughout Brazil and the wider South American region.

To lead operations and enhance local service delivery, IRS has appointed Felipe A. De Sa as a surveyor. His role will be crucial in providing classification services, statutory certification, technical inspections, and marine assurance services directly within the region. This appointment is a key component of IRS’s ongoing international growth strategy, recognizing South America as a vital market driven by robust activity in shipping, ports, offshore energy, and shipbuilding.

Saikat Roychowdhury, Chief Operating Officer at IRS, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “Strengthening our presence in Brazil reinforces IRS’s commitment to supporting the maritime industry in South America through local presence, technical expertise, and responsive service delivery.” He further noted that having a dedicated surveyor based in Santos will significantly improve service capabilities for both existing and prospective clients.

This strategic move is expected to foster stronger relationships with regional stakeholders. IRS also aims to address the growing demand for its comprehensive service offerings, including classification, statutory certification, technical due diligence, marine technical services, digital solutions, and particularly, sustainability services and decarbonization initiatives. The expansion into Brazil solidifies IRS’s growing position within the global maritime market.
