Hanseatic Global Terminals completes stake acquisition in Brazilian Container Terminal
Hanseatic Global Terminals and the Imetame Group have officially established the Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz joint venture, formalizing their partnership to develop and operate a new greenfield container terminal in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil. This strategic collaboration, initially agreed upon in December 2025, is set to commence operations by mid-2028.
The new terminal is strategically positioned on Brazil’s eastern coast, designed to accommodate the latest generation of large container vessels. It will serve a dual purpose as a crucial transshipment hub and a vital gateway for Brazil’s foreign trade. The facility will boast a 17-meter draft, 750 meters of quay length, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art container handling equipment, projecting an annual capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEU.
Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, highlighted Latin America as a key strategic market for both HGT and Hapag-Lloyd, emphasizing that the Aracruz development will significantly enhance regional connectivity and provide more efficient access to global markets.
Etore Selvatici Cavallieri, Chairman of the Imetame Group, expressed immense pride in the partnership, underscoring its potential to drive operational excellence and further solidify Brazil’s position in international trade.
This concluded transaction underscores Hanseatic Global Terminals’ firm commitment to Latin America, aligning with its broader objective to expand its global portfolio to over 30 terminals by 2030.
The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
