Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) celebrated the naming of its new 174,000 cubic metre membrane-type LNG carrier, the DIAMOND GAS JADE, at a ceremony held at Samsung Heavy Industries on May 19. This vessel, owned by a joint venture, is slated for deployment on the LNG Canada Project. Mitsubishi Corporation is involved in this project through its subsidiary, Diamond Global Energy.

The naming ceremony was graced by the presence of Tetsuro Wada, Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Global Energy, and Yukikazu Myochin, Director and Chairperson of the Board of “K” LINE. Mr. Wada officially named the vessel DIAMOND GAS JADE, drawing inspiration from jade, a precious natural resource historically associated with British Columbia, Canada, the location of the LNG Canada Project. This naming signifies a commitment to enduring prosperity and reflects aspirations for the project’s sustained success.

Constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries, the LNG carrier is scheduled for delivery in August 2026. It measures approximately 290 metres in length with a beam of 45.8 metres, boasting a tank capacity of 174,000 cubic metres. The vessel is equipped with an advanced ME-GA propulsion system and is designed for a service speed of 19.5 knots.

“K” LINE highlighted that this charter agreement with Diamond Global Energy marks its inaugural long-term charter contract for a newly built LNG carrier. The company emphasized that this vessel will play a crucial role in supporting the global LNG supply chain by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of liquefied natural gas, a critical resource in addressing escalating worldwide energy demand.

Aligned with its medium-term management strategy, “K” LINE has designated the LNG business as a primary investment focus and intends to pursue further expansion of long-term energy transportation contracts in the coming years.
