Eimskip cleared as prosecutor files charges against company

The Icelandic District Prosecutor has concluded its investigation into the Chief Operational Officer of Eimskip concerning the sale of two vessels, thereby closing the case against the executive. This investigation, initiated in 2020 after a report from the Environment Agency of Iceland, has now been dismissed, and the executive is no longer a defendant.

Concurrently, the prosecutor has filed indictments against Eimskipafélag Íslands hf. and Eimskip Ísland ehf. regarding the same transaction. The authorities are pursuing convictions against the companies, including the recovery of legal costs.

Eimskip maintains that its actions throughout the sales process fully complied with all relevant laws and regulations, emphasizing that the vessels were sold for continued operation, not for recycling. The company also expressed relief that this resolution removes uncertainty for its employees and confirmed its intent to vigorously defend its position in court as the legal proceedings advance.
