ONE introduces emergency fuel surcharge amid Middle East disruptions
Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the implementation of an Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) in response to operational disruptions caused by the ongoing security situation in the Middle East.
ONE has indicated that several of its services are currently impacted by these conditions, leading to significant operational constraints and the necessity of implementing contingency measures. The carrier acknowledges that the duration of these disruptions is uncertain.
The current situation has resulted in a substantial increase in fuel procurement costs across various regions and trade lanes, consequently elevating the overall expenses associated with vessel operations and ocean transportation.
To ensure continued service reliability amidst these exceptional circumstances, ONE will introduce the Emergency Fuel Surcharge across its global network.
Under the new EFS structure:
* Head haul shipments on all long-haul trades will incur a surcharge of USD 160 per TEU for dry containers and USD 210 per TEU for reefer containers.
* Back haul shipments on long-haul routes will be subject to a surcharge of USD 80 per TEU for dry containers and USD 105 per TEU for reefer containers.
* All short-sea trades will have a surcharge of USD 80 per TEU for dry containers and USD 105 per TEU for refrigerated containers.
The surcharge will become effective from March 24, 2026, for non-FMC regulated trades. For FMC regulated trades, which include shipments involving the United States, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, Hawaii, and Canada, the surcharge will apply from April 9, 2026.
ONE emphasizes that the Emergency Fuel Surcharge is contingent upon all necessary regulatory approvals and compliance with applicable notice periods. It will remain in effect until further notice.
