Maersk raises Peak Season Surcharge on Far East–East Africa Routes

Maersk has announced an adjustment to its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments originating in Far East Asia and destined for East Africa. This revised surcharge will affect cargo transported from China and Hong Kong to Kenya and Dar es Salaam, commencing January 12, 2026.

For shipments bound for Kenya, the PSS will be USD 700 per 20-foot dry and reefer container. The rate increases to USD 1,200 for all 40-foot and 45-foot containers. For cargo destined for Dar es Salaam, the surcharge is set at USD 600 for 20-foot containers and USD 1,200 for 40-foot and 45-foot units.

Maersk stated that this revision is essential to maintain the quality and reliability of its global services during periods of high shipping demand. The updated surcharge applies to both spot and non-spot bookings, contingent upon the applicable price calculation date or vessel departure date, as specified by the booking type.

It is important to note that this PSS will be applied in addition to any existing local or contingency surcharges. The surcharge will remain in effect until further notification.
