Shippers turning from integrators to alternative carriers for parcel deliveries
With the peak parcel delivery season rapidly approaching, an increasing number of US shippers are actively seeking viable alternatives to the established giants, FedEx and UPS.
In response to this growing demand, regional parcel carrier OnTrac has strategically expanded its reach, unveiling new coast-to-coast services. Concurrently, Uber Eats has made significant strides in the fulfillment sector, securing another substantial client for its burgeoning portfolio.
Meanwhile, UPS has faced considerable criticism, particularly for its handling of peak season surcharges. The carrier’s decision to delay the announcement until August 29th left shippers with a mere four weeks to adapt before these crucial surcharges took effect on September 28th, causing significant operational and financial planning challenges. This situation has undoubtedly put the spotlight on the strategies employed by major carriers, including those led by UPS CEO Carol Tomé.
